Cali Werner, a distance runner and All-American from Rice University, battled with OCD for most of her life. Once receiving appropriate treatment, Cali decided to pursue a career in OCD treatment herself. After completing her BA at Rice, Cali graduated from Baylor University with her LMSW and also received a specialization in OCD. She currently works at the Houston OCD Program as an OCD clinician while also continuing her research involving collegiate athletes and performance inhibiting behaviors.
Cali will be discussing her battle with OCD and how it really took away from the love of her sport. She will also discuss how collegiate athletes are at a higher risk of receiving a mental health disorder diagnosis (i.e. anxiety, depression, substance abuse) and the importance of taking action in obtaining the appropriate treatment when these symptoms arise.
